In the past sunglasses were used more by people who needed them for their work like sailors that had to deal with the reflection of the sun from the surface of the water but nowadays almost everyone owns a pair of sunglasses. The problem is that most people do not get sunglasses that provide good protection like polarized sunglasses. This is why it is important to always check what type of sunglasses you are buying before you do it. High quality polarized sunglasses will give good results and will not let the sun affect your sight but if you get a cheap pair of normal sunglasses they can even damage your sight more instead of protecting it. This is because a lot of the cheap sunglasses are made from materials that should not be used and they do not have any protection. For example they get rid of the glare that the sun has and this can be great for people that spend a lot of time outside like people who do sports.
